Custom tactic Valmara Non Recurve with Damascus & carbon
In front of you is a custom Valmara Non Recurve from Les George Knives, which Les made to my order. Materials, the shape of the knife, and the design were discussed individually.
Les George’s knives are characterized by a special attractive laconicism. Hydra and Harpy (one of my favorite models) show that perfectly. As they are saying: “To hell with eclecticism! Perfect shapes and strict design! — that’s our motto”. Inspired by these models I decided to get something exclusive from the master. I chose a Valmara flipper. We contacted Les and together developed a project of a future knife. We tried to make this project include the main features of the American school of knifemaking. All that brought these wonderful knives to my stock.
The clip point blade of my Valmara is crafted out of stainless Damascus steel. The cutting edge of the original model features a curvature called a recurve. I have nothing against S-shape blades and got no problems using them, but this time I wanted to make the look of my knife more massive due to the straightened blade. Ten knives were produced with the inlaid marble carbon bolsters. There were additionally manufactured two custom knives with Mokume and timascus inlays. You can find exclusive Valmara Timascus and Valmara Mokume knives in our online shop only.
The stonewashed handle is made of titanium. The lock – is frame-lock. The serial item number and the exclusive Maria Stalina’s Edition mark are engraved on the inner surface of the handle.
Judgments of an item’s ergonomics are always subjective, nevertheless, some basic principles of knifemaking allow to evaluate whether a knife is functional. In our case, the wide handle is a doubtless advantage as regards the usability of the knife. Valmara fits comfortably almost every palm. I believe Valmara’s owners will agree with me. To level up the comfort of using Valmara as an EDC knife, I would recommend using a lanyard for quick pulling out of your pocket.
Valmara will appeal to all lovers of classic forms in modern design. The knife is reliable, accurate, and efficient. It is a good old-fashioned American flipper and my pride and joy :-)
