Medford Knife and Tool (Greg Medford)

MKT is the next generation of American knifemakers

Greg Medford is an American knifemaker. Despite the youth of his company Medford Knife and Tool, their products have already gained worldwide recognition for their brutal design, reliability, and efficiency in solving applied problems.

Medford was born in Arizona. Greg was raised in an atmosphere of respect for family traditions, hard work, and love for his homeland. It was the family, as Medford later says, that had a significant influence on the formation of his worldview and helped to determine his current craft.

In the mid-80s, while still a teenager, Greg became interested in martial arts. Classes in American Kenpo awakened in the young man an interest in the culture of the Far Eastern and, first of all, Japanese-edged weapons. He began to study the designs and manufacturing technologies of weapons. Collects and restores tachi, katana, wakizashi, and tanto. Of course, these hobbies influenced the choice of profession.

In 1988, Medford enlisted in the US Army. In the ranks of the Marine Corps Special Squad, he participated in Operation Desert Storm. The Master understood what a good army knife should be.

In the late 90s, Medford opens his own company — Medford Knives and Tools. The company produces limited editions of strong and reliable hand-made tools (with minimal use of CNC machines). These are mainly tactical and/or combat knives, axes, and machetes. According to Greg, the M.K.T knife is like an old friend you can always count on.

Many knife fans and the military immediately liked the master's tactical EDC knives, where modern technology and reliable construction were successfully combined with a recognizable design. Sometime later, Greg received an order from the US Navy to develop the USMC EOD-1 fixed blade knife, which became a constant companion of the US Marine Corps sapper teams.

However, his most recognizable folder Praetorian brought real fame to Greg.

Praetorian is a folding knife with a large blade (with wide flats and a thick butt), uncharacteristic for most tactical folders, its shape refers to the gladius — an ancient Roman sword weapon of the bodyguards of the emperors of Rome.

The model has several modifications that differ in the thickness of the butt and some structure. The original and ergonomic handle with Frame-lock is made of titanium and/or, depending on the model, G10. As a result, the brutal and reliable Praetorian is becoming a hit not only in the United States, but also in other countries of the world.

Medford's products have three characteristics that determine the company's success — brutal and minimalist style, quality materials, and an ergonomic, indestructible design.

The blades of the lineup, as a rule, have an aggressive geometry and impressive dimensions. As the material of the blades, the master most often uses the D2 tool steel, which perfectly holds the sharpening. Also used powder steel CPM S35VN and others. Blade Finishes — Black Oxide and Vulcan Thermal Coating for an apocalyptic look. Typical grips are titanium anodized and G10 composite.

For its knives, Medford Knife and Tool manufactures Kydex sheaths, waterproof cases, and lanyards.

Medford's tactical overbuild knives will appeal to connoisseurs of durable, reliable, ergonomic folders.
