17th-century Japanese katana from the Hachiya Kanesada blacksmith school

Production time: 60s of the XVII century.

Period: New swords (1596 – 1781).

Province: Mino.

The sword was forged by representatives of the famous blacksmith school Hachiya Kanesada.

Signature: Kanesada.

Blade: single-edged symmetrical profile with a longitudinal rib ( katana but tsukuri-komi wa honzukuri). The butt is conical in the form of a gable roof, a slight bend, a tip of medium size (yori mune, sori asaku, chuho to naru). The blade shows remarkable "wood" forging and skillful "straight" hardening. Good condition and preservation.

Shirasaya (mounting for daily storage) is mounted with a blade.

Koshirae (artistic mounting) is antique, made in the Higo style of the Edo period (1603 - 1867), lacquered with gold chips (kin-nashiji), painted with maki-e flowers, inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Metal details are inlaid with gold (kin-nunome-zogan).
