Skull keychain commissioned by Maria Stalina Knives
Master of miniature sculpture Hidetoshi Nakayama has made his name through impeccable accessories and exquisite jewelry. Restrained perfection is woven into the DNA of Japanese art as embodied in the works of Hidetoshi-san.
The master's creations are renowned for flawless execution and compositional completeness. Add or subtract a single stroke, and the charm of his work would crumble into parts, losing its integrity.
This exquisite keychain, commissioned by Maria Stalina Knives, was presented by Nakayama Hidetoshi to connoisseurs of custom art at the renowned New York Custom Knife Show 2019 in the United States. And now we are proud to present it to you.
Just take a look at this skull, crafted from precious white metal! Precise anatomical proportions, detailed bone structure — from the parietal to the mandible — brilliant polishing in every sense, and careful local blackening. On the back of the skull, the characters gleam faintly — the author's signature.
The method of attachment is most original — the skull seems to have been caught in a fishing net and hauled up from the depths of the Sea of Japan. A sturdy web of synthetic threads disappears into a gleaming leather binding, secured to a convenient carabiner. The carabiner's minimalist form has not been left undecorated — its frame is covered in an exquisite, subtle anodizing that shimmers with temper colors.
