Custom lanyard bead "Thistle"
Custom lanyard bead "Thistle" by Moscow-based artist, jeweler, and engraver Andrey Avvakumov.
The thistle is a multicultural symbol — in Slavic mythology, it serves as a protective charm against evil spirits. In the ancient Roman pantheon, a torch made of its dried stalks was an attribute of the goddess of fertility and agriculture. The Order of the Knights of the Thistle is one of the oldest orders of the Old World. In the heraldic symbolism of the Scottish royal order, the image of the wildflower is accompanied by the words: "Nemo me impune lacessit" ("No one provokes me with impunity").
Avvakumov places great emphasis on the semantic dimension of his work, striving to give each piece a distinct folkloric aura — to create not merely an art object, but a kind of talisman, an artifact of use to its future owner.
