Manufacture caliber Shizeku B.Fancy Wild signature 2/2.
The new knife of the Manufactory S&L was named "Shizeku".The name, like a fresh east wind, carries the spirit of old Japan, because shizeku is one of the ancient names of the samurai class. The manufacturing caliber of the basic (B) design of this artifact is made in premium materials, therefore it was awarded the Fancy extension in the name, which indicates its sophistication compared to the more modest brothers L (purple handle). The knife's design is inspired by classic Zen coans. It is unlikely that ordinary logic will explain the asymmetry of the left and right sides of the handle and blade, at the same time, the wrong to call this solution is not elegant enough or unjustified. A Damascus steel blade is always a unique product. Even among the details made of the same pattern material, you can't find two identical ones – the drawing of each is always individual. The complex shaped blade of the Shizeku has a unique silhouette inspired by the Bowie shape with a noticeable oriental accent. However, technological refinements have been added to its geometric complexity in Fancy decoration. On each of its sides there are three fullers, each of which is decorated with its own texture of Damascus. A deep etching Damascus is located on the cheecks (flats), giving a voluminous tactile pattern, a less obvious but still perfectly readable pattern on the lens, and, finally, an almost imperceptible pattern close to the mirror on the bevel. In addition, the geometry of the sides of the blade does not repeat each other. The lens & fullers of each side have their own order and size. A thoughtful collector will certainly pay attention to the difference in the design of the sides of the blade and, we hope, will appreciate this sophistication.
There is the branded chess corrugation of Manufactory S&L on the heel and spine of the blade. The area on the heel replaces the flipper, not inferior in terms of functionality or ergonomic. Very comfortable and beautiful — nothing clings to the pocket and does not bother the appearance. The corrugation on a blade spine are helped a power cut. Significantly increased pressure and control.
The handle and clip of the knife are made of timascus. Did you know that the name "Timascus" is the name of a trademark, not a material? This name has long and firmly entered the everyday life of knifemakers, becoming the generally accepted name of Titanium Damascus. However, Timascus is a trademark of a specific titanium composite created in 2001 in the USA using a technology similar to the manufacture of Damascus steel. Note that this is only one of the trademarks under which titanium damascus is known (Moku-Ti, Zla-Ti, etc. are also quite common) Timascus allows you to reproduce on its surface a contrasting color pattern resembling the texture of wood or natural stone. Knifemakers all over the world highly appreciate this material and use it to make the most expressive details of the knife. During heat treatment/anodizing, different grades of titanium included in the composite acquire different colors, creating bright and unique color patterns. The masters of the Manufactory S&L had to put enough effort and spend a lot of time to come to the palette of colors that made the handle of the Fancy Shizeki truly exquisite. Each handle made of timascus has an individual pattern and is therefore unique. Its shape, matching the blade, is very difficult and, at the same time, comfortable, ergonomic. Let's not brag, the happy owners will tell those interested about their visual and tactile delights. Unique, like the handle, the timascus clip it extremely matches the artistic concept of the product. The clip easily fits to the palm, doesn't hurt the hand. The backspaser, also made of Timascus, performs two additional functions: a lanyard holder and a glass-breaker.
And yet, with all the frills described above, the main feature of Shizeku is the lock. CFR (Compression Frame Reverse) combines elements of compression and frame locks. In addition to the queerness of such a symbiosis, the frame spring is located on the side of the clip, and even in the upper part of the handle! A button is fixed on the inside of the spring, the pommel of which adorns the left plate of the handle. It is comfortable moved out with the thumb of the right hand, giving the movement of folding the blade an unbearable lightness.
The knife is packed in a branded box. The box is made according to all the canons of the Russian lacquer miniature by the masters of the village of Kholui, and in itself is an art object. The plot of the miniature was developed by a friend of the Manufactory S&L– the famous artist Vitaly Ilyin (aka Barandash Karandashich). The package includes a certificate of authenticity and a branded microfiber cloth.
