About 10 years ago American knifemaker Todd Begg with his brother Mark founded a company Begg Knives. Iconic design and premium craftsmanship made the knives the triumph of human perfectionism in every element of the product.

High performance designs are available through their California-based custom shop and through their Steelcraft Series. Both lines maintain an impressive level of detail and precision using premium materials.

California Custom Group limited-run series is completely designed, manufactured, and assembled in a workshop located in Petaluma, California, USA. California Custom Group is a group of highly skilled craftsmen who take great pride in creating limited range of knives. This group does not just build Begg author's models, they share ideas and techniques, they do full customization and often take part in the development of new product lines for the company, as Astio.  This group acts like one essence. Talented craftsmen have worked there for many years. They make everything there, and they do not have any outside company making parts for them which gives total control of the tolerances expected from every knife. 

Mark, who currently leads Begg Knives *, proudly talks about guys from California Custom Group, calling them a part of the family. 

Steelcraft Series are the same author’s models adapted for the serial market of knives. Premium components are also used for these knives, however, final solutions are typically optimized for EDC needs. All Steelcraft Series knives are designed with an emphasis on precision workmanship to showcase that a production knife can truly be a thing of excellence. 

To create new models, the company invites talented designers for cooperation, for example, Jared Van Otterloo, who is known for his collaborations with Greg Lightfoot, Allen Elishewitz and other manufacturers of custom knives.

As Mark says: “We are building knives for the next generation who will receive these as much for the generation that will receive them now. We continue to push the bar and innovate in order to into the future, consistently redefining what a knife can be”.

The technical equipment and precise machining confirm his words. Begg Knives use a wire EDM for pivot holes, lock ramps, stop pin track and stop locations and the detent holes to make the precious tuning for every knife. Every process they do after the parts come off the mill is done by hand. The company buys steel, Damascus and exotic materials, modern alloys from the best suppliers.

The supreme care and consideration for each knife brought well-deserved popularity around the world. These are real Premium EDCs, which have very respectable status in the knife community and outside it. 

American movie and show business stars, famous athletes and music performers are happy to use begg’s knives in everyday life. Among them are the fighters Andrei Orlovsky and Randy Couture, the actor and comedian Luis Guzman, Wu-Tang Clan leader Robert Diggs, aka RZA, legendary drummer Travis Barker, Sen Dog from Cypress Hill, DJ Steve Aoki and other celebrities.

Mark and his team regularly participate in knife events in the US and Europe, such as the Blade Show, SICAC and many others.
