Ryk Maverick's antique ashtray
A virtuoso vintage from Ryk Maverick, founder of the brand Starlingear (brutal men's accessories). The master worked on the reincarnation of a century-old cigar ashtray with his own hands, as evidenced by Ryk's copper signature on the bottom. A weighty little thing came to our store, straight from the Blade Show 2019 in Atlanta.
To find out the history of the ashtray, you will have to look under it. On the reverse side, there is a stamp with the name of the company, the date of the patent (NOV 10-96), and the serial number of the product (S274). The ashtray was cast during the period from 1898 to 1912 when Frank & De Keyser, a New York homeware company existed. And do not be confused by the earlier date of patenting, the first ashtrays of this form began to be produced at the time when the company bore the name Bernard Frank & Co. But then Leo Frank had a fight with his companion, William Bernard, over a patent for improved matches and replaced William with Israel De Keyser. Later Leo also separated from Israel.
In the center of the ashtray as a pagan altar stands the Motherfucker, aka MF. We've seen this skull with heavy eyebrows and protruding lower jaw on massive rings and famous lanyard beads of Maverick. The MF is made of copper-base alloy and decorated with a white metal pattern. The majestic Motherfucker is accompanied by three cheerful Slickster skulls (two made of white and one is of yellow metal). The ashtray is traditionally equipped with the Starlingear logo — a gear with an “S” in the middle.
Ryk Maverick not only skillfully made skulls but also added a new finish. With the help of patina, the designer emphasized the native leaves relief of the ashtray and polished convex places to a mirror shine. The result is a spectacular contrast.
It comes with a suede pouch with an embossed brand logo and a certificate.
The ashtray by Starlingear Corporation is a one-of-a-kind custom accessory. A vintage ashtray will look great next to a mahogany humidor. It will be the best gift for someone whose knowledge of cigars is not limited to Cuba. Don't miss this modern piece of art with a century's history, buy it now.
