Varnish miniature in three-layer painting technique
Ballpoint pen Dragon Catchers is a masterly work of arts and crafts that was made as a unique item by Fedoskino factory’s founder Alexander Olshanskii. The item is handiwork.
The elegant body was made by a master's hand in 5 days and creating the finest multi-layer painting took Alexander Olshanskii 3 months of continuous work. Dragon Catchers is made in oils in a three-layer painting technique, where oil paints alternate with layers of varnish.
The pen’s body is made of India rubber composite and brass, all brass elements are covered with a layer of noble metal. The same material appears as the base of foil: thinnest sheets of metal “parchment” shine in golden ornaments, quaint background and characters' clothes' embroidery under the layers of transparent paints.
The body’s handmade decoration Alexander Olshanskii renders in an old Russian technique. Multi-layer oil painting is the main special singularity of Fedoskino varnish miniatures, the Art that was born at the end of 18th century in a Moscow suburbs’ village Fedoskino. Sun rays that are going through the transparent layers of paints and varnish create the effect of inner glow.
The main characters of the painting are gnomes. Four little frowning gnomes are working hard to handle a huge net. The creature that is being hunted by underground citizens is so massive, that only his half-closed eye could fit the top of the pen’s cap. Hadn’t the legendary Smaug from Tolkien's Middle-earth become a prey of those 4 adventurous buddies?..
Full color painting of the pen’s body impresses with its master’s skill and detailing. Alexander Olshanskii thoroughly painted the smallest clothes’ details: from the striped stockings to the tassels on the top of pointed hats. And how vivid face expressions are!
The pen comes in a branded brown box with beige lodgment and a refill from a high quality German brand Schmidt.
