Claudio Calestani

Claudio Calestani
Claudio Calestani is an Italian designer, jeweler, and creator of custom accessories inspired by rock'n'roll, biker culture, motorcycles, and the world of knife enthusiasts. His handmade jewelry combines a distinctive rugged aesthetic with traditional Italian craftsmanship.
Calestani's creations stand out for their bold, masculine character and unmistakable artistic style. Each piece is made from precious metals using the ancient cera persa, or lost-wax casting, technique. Among his most recognizable creations are custom jewelry, rings, bracelets, chains, pendants, and, above all, distinctive silver belt buckles.
Jewelry making runs in Claudio Calestani's family. His family's craft tradition dates back more than a century, to 1906, when Claudio's grandfather, Lucedio Calestani, founded the Federative Company of Jewelers with a group of fellow apprentice craftsmen in the historic Italian town of Casalmaggiore.
The young company quickly established itself in the Italian jewelry market. However, the First World War and the economic crisis that followed forced the business to shift toward more affordable products, including imitation pearls and electroplated items such as gold- and silver-plated jewelry.
As the market changed, expensive fine jewelry gave way to high-quality costume jewelry. After a series of mergers and acquisitions, the company became known as the Electroplating Factory and achieved considerable success. Its products reached customers in Hollywood, while major fashion houses, including Coco Chanel and Cartier, ordered costume jewelry from Casalmaggiore.
The Second World War brought the company to the brink of bankruptcy, and the business eventually split into several smaller enterprises. Lucedio Calestani returned to creating his own jewelry designs and passed his knowledge and craftsmanship on to his son, Giugurta Calestani.
Giugurta continued the family tradition but soon felt constrained by provincial life. He dreamed of moving to Milan, Italy's fashion capital. After relocating, he first opened a shop and workshop and later established the Calestani costume jewelry brand.
As the business grew, Giugurta began preparing his son Claudio to become the next generation of the family's jewelry-making tradition.
Claudio had been learning jewelry craftsmanship since childhood. His father also encouraged him to study accounting, believing that running a successful jewelry business required more than artistic skill. Claudio agreed, but his creative interests soon took him in a very different direction.
He became passionate about heavy rock, immersed himself in biker culture, studied kung fu, and spent much of the 1970s pursuing photography and sculpture. Motorcycles became one of the recurring subjects of his creative work.
Eventually, Claudio found a way to bring all these passions together through the family craft. His love of rock music, motorcycles, sculpture, and biker culture became an essential part of his artistic identity.
In 1984, Claudio Calestani presented his first collection of custom jewelry and leather belts with silver buckles. The collection was well received, encouraging him to establish his own brand.
Every distinctive jewelry brand needs a recognizable symbol. The Claudio Calestani logo was created almost by accident.
The artist drew numerous shapes and began moving the sketches around his worktable. Two elements eventually came together: a heart-shaped drop and a wave-like snake. This unexpected combination became the foundation of the Claudio Calestani emblem.
The heart and snake motifs have remained among the defining visual elements of the designerapos;s work ever since, appearing across his handmade jewelry and custom accessories.
Claudio Calestani's style is deeply connected to the world of motorcycles and biker culture. His creations combine the visual language of rock'n'roll with the craftsmanship of traditional Italian jewelry making.
His biker jewelry includes substantial bracelets, heavy chains, statement rings, pendants, and other distinctive accessories. The pieces are designed to look equally natural alongside polished motorcycle chrome or as part of an everyday personal collection.
One of the ultimate biker accessories is a custom Claudio Calestani leather belt with a blackened silver buckle. Calestani has created belts using exotic leathers, including hippopotamus, kudu, alligator, and python.
The combination of handcrafted leather, sculptural metalwork, and traditional Italian casting gives these belts the same distinctive character as his jewelry.
Maria Stalina Knives online-store has long been an admirer of Claudio Calestani's work. We are proud to present a selection of exclusive custom jewelry and accessories created personally by the Italian master.

After all, could anyone really resist a bracelet this stylish?
