Cheburkov’s Workshop — world renown knifemakersCheburkov’s Workshop — world renown knifemakers

Russian folding knives by Cheburkov’s Workshop is well known to Russian knife fans. And not only Russian! Their folders and fixed knives won several awards from international exhibitions and in 2015, the brand confidently entered the international knifemaking market. Works of the Cheburkov’s Workshop are sold in Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Italy and the USA.

The manufacture is located in Pavlovo, Nizhny Novgorod region, 420 kilometers from Moscow. The founders of the company are the spouses Cheburkov Alexander and Maria. Alexander is in charge of production, and Marina decides all organizational and economic issues.

Cheburkov hired 18-year-old college graduates. From these promising young people, the Cheburkovs' spouses raised talented craftsmen. Now the company's team consists of over 30 people, 12 of whom are directly involved in production.

During the crisis years of the 1990s Cheburkov has tried many professions: sharpened gears, sold plumbing, made packaging for mobiles. Once Cheburkov happened to be in the workshop of a knifemaker friend. Inspired by the "masculine" theme, Alexander shared his impressions with a colleague locksmith, who supported the idea of making knives.

They organized a modest workshop in a small room with leaky floors. Alexander created sketches of models of knives with a fixed blade and overhead mounting of handles. He still keeps copies from the first batch to compare them with the new works of Cheburkov's Workshop. Cheburkov thought  to create his own brand only five years later. The master is sure that the mark on the blade should not be put when clients start asking for it.

Alexander continued to improve and at the same time taught his masters. He draws inspiration from both books and the works of his colleagues. Among Russian knifemakers, Cheburkov respects Shirogorov Brothers Workshop, Dmitry Sinkevich and Justus. Among foreign he admires the French: Jean-Pierre Martin and Philippe Jourget.

Cheburkov’s Workshop produces limited edition knives, semi-custom and custom.
