Sergey Rogovets

Traditions of fine jewelry craftsmanship and a bold, rugged knife design

Sergey Rogovets is an American knifemaker of Russian origin, the creator of the custom brand ExtremAddiction and the SR Metal Work workshop. His work focuses on handcrafted folding knives, men's accessories, and collectible pieces. His designs combine jeweler's precision, sophisticated mechanics, and a bold industrial aesthetic.

Sergey Rogovets was born and raised in Moscow. His interest in knives, weapons, and medieval armor began in childhood. His father, a professional jeweler, had a major influence on his future career. From an early age, Sergey was exposed to precious metals and gemstones, hand tools, technical drawings, and precision craftsmanship.

At 17, Sergey emigrated to the United States with his family. They settled in New York, where his father opened his own jewelry workshop. Sergey continued working in the family business and gradually established a reputation for creating custom men's jewelry. His main base and production later moved to Madisonville, Kentucky.

Jewelry making became the foundation of his approach to knifemaking: meticulous attention to detail, precision machining, and careful hand-fitting would later become defining characteristics of ExtremAddiction knives.

Sergey Rogovets' path into custom knifemaking began with men’s accessories. As he expanded his range of work, he created custom lighters, keychains, and lanyard beads, eventually moving into titanium handle scales for knives.

His growing interest in knife mechanics eventually led him to design and build his own folding knife from scratch. This marked the beginning of ExtremAddiction — a custom knife brand built from the outset around one-off production. Sergey deliberately chose not to pursue mass production, instead focusing on handcrafting and the individual execution of every piece.

One of the defining aspects of Sergey Rogovets' work is his highly hands-on approach to knifemaking. He does not use CNC machinery, CAD-based automated design, laser cutting, or waterjet cutting.

Sergey draws his knife designs by hand with pencil and paper. Blanks are cut with a band saw, while pivot assemblies are machined on a manual lathe. Every component passes through the maker's hands — from the main structural elements to seemingly minor parts such as screws and washers.

This approach demands a considerable amount of manual work, but it gives Sergey the freedom to focus closely on fit, finish, and the finer details of each mechanism.

Sergey Rogovets' custom knives are instantly recognizable for the combination of two qualities that might seem contradictory at first. On one hand, they feature substantial forms and a pronounced industrial aesthetic. On the other, they display jeweler's precision and exceptionally careful fitting.

The maker works with premium steels, including CTS-XHP and MagnaCut, as well as titanium, zirconium, and Damascus steel. These materials serve not only structural purposes but also play an important role in the knife's overall visual language.

Today, Sergey Rogovets is a licensed custom knife and firearms manufacturer in the United States. ExtremAddiction knives are produced individually and hold particular appeal for collectors of custom knifemaking. Sergey's work has gained recognition beyond the United States and attracts enthusiasts of handcrafted custom knives around the world.

For collectors, ExtremAddiction stands out above all for its combination of an unusually high level of hand craftsmanship, sophisticated mechanics, and a distinctive industrial design language.
