Some objects are not meant to reveal themselves at first glance. Égocentrique is one of them.
Its name comes from the French and means ‘turned inward’. And that is no metaphor.
What you see before you hardly resembles a knife. It does not seek instant approval, nor does it rush to explain itself. What is it? A harmonica? A paperweight? You pick it up and, for a moment, you are not quite sure what you are holding.
The Art Deco-inspired pattern of the bronze scales forms something between the Latin letter X and the Roman numeral X— ten. X has long been the symbol of the unknown. And ten, in Roman numerals, carries a rich heritage — from the Ten Commandments to the Pythagorean ideal of perfection. Or perhaps something entirely its own.
The almost rectangular body is crafted from steel, titanium, and bronze. And there is one more clever touch in it. Hidden at the center of the bronze pattern is a screw head. Didn’t notice it? That is precisely what the craftsmen at SIL Manufactory® intended.
Inside lies an entire mechanism. Opening the Égocentrique requires a motion that first feels wrong, then accidental, and finally inevitable.
The RWL-34 blade resembles the hand of a clock, quietly suggesting that everything has its proper time.
