A vintage flashlight crafted by the hands of Rick Maverick
Rick Maverick has set his sights on steampunk. The founder of the Starlingear brand has blended modern technology with 1920s style, jewelry craftsmanship with electronics. The result is a stylish, rugged, and highly functional piece.
We purchased this custom Starlingear Corporation flashlight at the Starlingear booth at Blade Show 2019. Notice the copper signature on the body — it confirms that Maverick personally worked on the decoration.
For the internals, Rick enlisted the help of top-tier masters Josh Dawson and Mitch Lum. The new Todai flashlight model was developed specifically for this collaboration with the Starlingear brand. It runs on an IMR18350 battery with a 1200 mAh capacity and features eight lighting modes: five levels of white-light illumination, two amber modes, plus a flicker mode. All modes are controlled by a single button on the tail cap. The powerful LEDs (maximum output — 1300 lumens) are protected by sapphire glass — scratch-resistant and built to last.
Artful patches of patina have aged the brass body by a good hundred years. Some decorative elements didn't even need aging. See those three elongated copper plates with floral motifs? They were born in the 1920s and were specially unearthed for this flashlight by Starlingear agents at a flea market.
Against the patinated backdrop, the cast white-metal components — polished to a mirror shine — gleam brightly. These include two squinting skulls from the famous Stealth line, a gear-shaped logo with the letter "S," and a twisted ornamental pattern.
The final decorative touch is a wide clip with a geometric pattern. A zirconium bead on the clamp makes attachment effortless.
The Starlingear Corporation flashlight is a custom, handcrafted accessory. Its body was personally decorated by Rick Maverick, its electronics represent the cutting edge of technology, and its decorative elements remember the heyday of Dixieland in New Orleans.
