The ZT tactical by Dmitry Sinkevich
This tall tactical folder is the result of a collaboration between the American brand Zero Tolerance and the renowned Belarusian designer Dmitry Sinkevich. The ZT 0454 turned out so well that in 2013 it was named "Knife of the Year" at the most famous knifemaking gathering — the Blade Show in Atlanta. The model was released as a limited run, with the serial number "60" engraved on the knife.
The ZT 0454 boasts three of the brand's proprietary innovations. First, the patented Sub-Frame Lock. Second, the signature KVT ball-bearing deployment system. And third, the handsome blade features a composite of two legendary steel grades. The knife is quite large — by size, it's a powerful tactical piece, but you'd hesitate to subject such beauty to hard use. For EDC tasks and turning heads, however — it's perfect.
The ZT 0454 has one of the lightest and fastest flips around. The patented KVT and Sub-Frame Lock systems work in perfect harmony. You barely have time to press the flipper tab before you hear the click of the lock engaging. The lock bar features a construction uncommon for Frame Locks — it's part of a complex frame made of titanium and carbon fiber. The working part of the spring is protected by a hardened steel insert.
The blade consists of three layers. The spine and grinds are made of D2 — the renowned American steel prized for its edge retention. The core of this "sandwich" is Swedish Sandvik 14C28N — a steel with excellent strength and corrosion resistance. The geometry of the blade's metal junction is emphasized by contrasting finishes: a diamond-like DLC coating on the D2, and stonewash on the Sandvik.
The scales are crafted from black carbon fiber. Its warm, charcoal weave has a soft-touch feel and provides excellent grip. The ergonomic handle features finger contours — a shape that prevents the knife from slipping in your hand. The black carbon is seamlessly complemented by matte titanium elements: the backspacer, pivot screw, lock bar, and pocket clip.
The long, textured titanium backspacer is adorned with jimping that provides additional grip security for the ZT 0454 in your palm.
The pocket clip is stylishly integrated into the knife's contour, securely holding the folder in place on your pocket.
